  • In 1980 Magic and the Lakers defeated a 76ers team featuring Julius Erving, Darryl Dawkins and Maurice Cheeks
  • In 1982 the Lakers again beat the 76ers. It was mostly the same Sixers team with Dr. J, Darryl Dawkins and Mo Cheeks but they also now had Andrew Toney who led them in scoring for the series. 
  • In 1985 Magic and Lakers beat Larry Legend and the Boston Celtics. Those Celtics featured a fierce front court including two other Hall of Famers besides Bird: Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale.
  • In 1987, Magic’s Lakers beat Bird & the Celtics again.  
  • In 1988, Magic and the Lakers defeated the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons featuring Isaiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman and others.

  • In 1983 Magic and his Lakers lost to an all-time great Philadelphia 76ers team that still had Dr. J, Andrew Toney and Mo Cheeks but added Moses Malone as well. The Sixers nearly lived up to Malone’s “Fo, Fo, Fo” playoff prediction finishing 12-1 in the playoffs. 
  • In 1984 the Lakers got the worst of it in the first of three matchups vs Larry Bird and the Celtics. 
  • In 1989 Magic and the Lakers lost in their rematch with the Bad Boy Pistons. 
  • In 1991 the Lakers lost to Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant and the Chicago Bulls who won their first of six titles.
